These beautiful black matches, glass jar, cork top and strike pad bottom invoke Pele, the goddess of volcanoes, fire and the creator of the Hawaiian Islands. Each jar contains roughly twenty 3.75 inch black wooden matches with charcoal tips. Epithets of the goddess include Pele-honua-mea "Pele of the sacred land" and Ka wahine ʻai honua "The earth-eating woman".
